March’s New Song – Every Promise of Your Word

This is a great song for the church for at least two reasons: it puts various promise of God to song and lyric for us to rehearse in various scenarios, and it is highly singable.

Each verse contains different scenarios of the Christian life – whether waking to a new day (V1), struggling with sin (V2), in the difficult decisions of life (V3), or in any other situation where we need reminders of the hope, love, and presence of our God (V4).

Interweaved throughout these scenarios are the promises that immediately apply to their situation. For each new day, we can be confident that God’s word are powerful, strong, and eternal. We can start and finish the day in the security of knowing every word that comes from the mouth of God is sure to be true (V1).

In every temptation, failure, and rebellion we experience and commit, we can be sure that our God is faithful to forgive. But not only is he forgiving, but has forgiven us to live a life from freedom away from the domination and tyranny of sin. We have been declared innocent through the blood of Jesus our Savior. Once we were rightly condemned. Now, there is no condemnation for all of us who are in Christ Jesus (V2).

For every burdensome situation, for every challenging decision, for every instance when wisdom is needed, His promises apply. We can truly “listen for his voice” as Jesus is always present with us, never leaving us or forsaking us. We listen for His voice by dwelling upon His word (His voice) and asking for His wisdom to guide us through every dark and troubled spot in our lives. We are therefore enabled to make tough decisions knowing that we cannot mess up God’s plan of finishing every work He has begun in us (V3).

Whether in despair, or in the dread of fear – God’s promises brings us the anchor of hope and unshakeable love to combat these terrors in our lives. In these situations and more, we can be sure that we will never be forsaken or left alone, since Christ was forsaken in our place. In every scenario where we are weak, His grace is sufficient for me, because his power is made perfect our weakness (V4).

Intermixed with our scenarios and the promises of God is our response: we will stand on every promise of your word. Why? Because it is trustworthy and true. God’s promises are a sure thing. This is why this song is so good: it both reminds us of the importance of knowing and dwelling upon His promises in each scenario we face, as well as gives us some promises to dwell upon.

What a great song to know and sing as we lead up to celebrating the resurrection of Christ at Easter! God keeps His promises! And we know this full well from the cross and empty tomb. Praise God that all the promises of God are yes in Christ! (2 Cor. 1:20)

May God bless you richly through knowing and singing this new hymn.

From the breaking of the dawn to the setting of the sun,
I will stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
Words of power, strong to save, that will never pass away,
I will stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
For Your covenant is sure,
And on this I am secure—
I can stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.

When I stumble and I sin, condemnation pressing in,
I will stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
You are faithful to forgive that in freedom I might live,
So I stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
Guilt to innocence restored,
You remember sins no more—
So I’ll stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.

When I’m faced with anguished choice, I will listen for Your voice,
And I’ll stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
Through this dark and troubled land
You will guide me with Your hand
As I stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
And You’ve promised to complete
Ev’ry work begun in me—
So I’ll stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.

Hope that lifts me from despair, love that casts out ev’ry fear,
As I stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
Not forsaken, not alone, for the Comforter has come,
And I stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
Grace sufficient, grace for me,
Grace for all who will believe—
We will stand on ev’ry promise of Your Word.
